Cobham at Christmas 2011

The Cobham at Christmas festivities will begin throughout the town at 5pm on Friday 25th November 2011.

The Elmbridge Choir will be singing outside Carphone Warehouse, and the Octavian Singers, will be singing outside Cobham Furniture in the High Street.

Throughout the town you will find various children's rides, pop corn, candy floss, hot chestnuts, mulled wine, mince pies, and of course a hog roast, and much, much more. Chelsea Football Club coaches will be teaching ball control in Oakdene Parade, so why not come along and have a go.

Once again Cobham will be hosting a 'Parade of Light' that is bigger and better than before. The parade will feature lanterns predominantly made by the young people carrying them, in workshops which took place over recent weeks. We will also have our own Christmas King and Queen, being junior members of our community drawn from our own community primary school, St Andrews.

Andy Collins (who plays Smee in Woking Theatre's brilliant pantomime, Peter Pan and is best known as the host of BBC 1's Garden SOS and ITV's Family Fortune) will be giving a running commentary from Santa's Sleigh as they ride along the route. Santa's trusty Elves will be handing out the sweets, as the procession trundles along. We have also arranged for a short snow fall on the night, so wrap up warm.

The procession will leave St Andrew's School, Lockhart Road, Cobham at 6:50pm and pass along Freelands Road and Anyards Road, stopping at the Christmas Light switch on point by Carphone Warehouse. At 7pm the lights will be switched on and a prize awarded to the best Christmas windows display.

The procession will turn left into Cobham High Street (at approxiamately 7:05pm) and proceed down the High Street turning right into Church Street (which will be closed briefly) to get to St Andrews Church, where there will be a family Carol Service starting at 7:30pm. After a short break the band and floats will then return along Downside Bridge Road to Waitrose supermarket, turning right towards the High Street and then left back into Anyards Road, along Anyards Road, Freelands Road and back to the school.

Cobham Christmas TreeThe shops will be open late, so you will be able to buy gifts, or make an evening of it, and enjoy a meal in the many varied food outlets, the town has on offer. There is a grotto next to Farrants Newsagents, where the children can get a present from Santa. Woking Theatre has a stall outside Starbucks, so you can find out more about their panto, Peter Pan.

This list could be added to, as late bookings come in. If you or an organisation you know, would like to take part, please contact, The Event's Team, Pauline & Phil Spiers on 07514 497438 or e-mail us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
